At the end of a diatribe (justified) about AIB and criticising the FG/Labour coalition for bailing them out of the ICI crisis in 1985, Vincent Browne says today: "As time goes by you have to have more and more admiration for Charles Haughey. He was the only one who treated AIB in the way it should be treated. When they demanded repeatedly from 1974 to 1980 that he stop running up a massive overdraft and repay the money he had obtained from them, he told them what to do with themselves.
